(December 6, 2024, 10:30 a.m. Once Upon a Nutcracker, abbreviated version 45 minutes)
The original Nutcracker presented by San Jose Dance Theatre, a Bay Area family tradition since 1964, is the longest-running live production of The Nutcracker in San Jose. San Jose Dance Theatre now features a professional ballet company, special guest artists, and the San Jose Dance Theatre Academy, performing once again with the Cambrian Symphony (musical direction by Scott Krijnen.)
Tchaikovsky's enchanting score will be masterfully played by The Cambrian Symphony 52-piece orchestra, led by conductor Scott Johannes Krijnen.
Nearly 100 dancers fill the stage with classic holiday magic and season surprises with stylish, smart staging that brims with bravura dancing and just the right amount of gingerbread to put even Ebenezer Scrooge in the holiday spirit.
In the old days ... Ballet San Jose offered one of the most lavish productions of THE NUTCRACKER on the West Coast. It required four fog machines and a total of 400 pounds of dry ice per performance for the Wondrous Snowstorm at the end of Act I. Sixty pounds of flameproof, punched white confetti was dropped during the scene.
