This graceful three tiered fountain began to flow in 1971 and has delighted
residents every since. The fountain is in a park-like setting and creates the
atmosphere of Naples
Italy with the sound of falling water and the illumination
of the lights at night. This site was donated to the City in 1933 by the Belmont Shore Development
Company and was known as "Circle Park Naples". It was renamed "Bella Flora Park"
by the Park Commission in 1934. The old Naples Hotel once stood to the west of
this site. The original park improvements consisted of a lawn area with large
Phoenix Palms. It also included a vent for an abandoned underground septic tank.
The vent was removed in 1971 and replaced with a Neapolitan-type fountain that
rises in three-tiers from an octangular base. The fountain was dedicated on
February 20, 1971 and renamed "La Bella Fontana di Napoli". The fountain was
renovated in 2008 with new tile, lighting, and the help of Naples Garden Club.

The Leeway Sailing and Aquatics Center has had "the wind at it's back"
throughout its long history. Founded in 1929 to teach local youth the basics of

premier municipal instructional sailing programs in the country. The Center's

A Long Beach sailing program on the beach of Alamitos Bay began in 1929. It
became affiliated with the Alamitos Bay Yacht Club ABYC not long after it
founding
and many Leeway Sailing Center Leeway members were also junior
members of the ABYC. Since 1964
Leeway has continued to operate out of the old
firehouse building. In 2008
the City began considerations of replacing the old
firehouse with a more modern building. Leeway is associated with the popularity
of the Sabot class of boats
which was originated by a father of a young sailor
learning to sail there. Gondola Getaway is also operated out of the Leeway
docks.
Leeway Sailing and Aquatics Center offers beginning and intermediate sabot
classes for children age 8 and above and up to adult. The instructional fleet
includes 8' sabots
14 foot Capri boats and our 28 foot keelboat. Board sailing
is offered to ages 16 and older. Two-hour semi-private and private lessons are

operated by the Department of Parks

The Municipal Cemetery is located at the northwest corner of Willow Street and
Orange Avenue. It was established as early as 1901 when William Willmore
the
original developer of what became Long Beach was interred there. According to
records
on July 10th
1900 the City of Long Beach assumed the operation and
maintenance of the three and two-thirds acres cemetery from the Long Beach
Cemetery Association. The Cemetery was previously known as the Signal Hill
Cemetery
and it is thought to have been established as a burial ground for
Bixby Ranch employees. A Bixby mausoleum is located on the property
although no
member of the Bixby family is interred there. At some point
the land became
part of the Rancho Los Cerritos
and was subsequently purchased by William Erwin
Willmore
the entrepreneur credited with founding Willmore City
predecessor to
the City of Long Beach. The management
upkeep and control of the Cemetery is
the responsibility of the Parks
Recreation and Marine Department. This includes
manual watering of the grounds
tree maintenance
plant care
weeding
edging
and mowing of the turf
raking of leaves
"righting" of headstones
straightening them upright or raising them to grade and debris removal. Along
with the maintenance of the grounds
staff open and close graves. This job must
be performed very carefully to not disturb surrounding soil and to comply with
state laws and standards of practice for cemeteries. The main obstacle with is
that the accuracy of the records is in conflict with who actually lies in the
ground. The cemetery is used frequently for filmings
including Mariah Carey's
cemetery scene in the movie "Glitter." Although Arnold's Terminator 3 cemetery
scene was shot at El Dorado Park
the filming company had the Municipal Cemetery
as their first option until the magnitude of the special effects were
considered. The cemetery has more than a century of history to share with all
who are interested
but you may not want to plan your visit on Halloween night.
Not only will you find it's quietness eerily disturbing
but you will also find
it locked and closely guarded for the occasion.

The beautiful Overlook Park
also known over the years as Naples Plaza
has a
great view of the Naples Bay with the Vista Del Golfo walk way that flows right
along side it. Enjoy the green space by having a picnic or admiring the views of
the bay.
History
This park is located at the end of Naples Plaza Drive and is often known as
Naples Plaza Park. In January 1965
the City Council approved a contract for
construction of the park. Planting was completed in April of the same year.
This bay front park consists of an elongated strip of land running from the
beginning at the west end of Corso di Napoli and terminating at the east end of
Corso di Oro. It extends about 15 feet in width from the seawall to the private
property line
but variability in width does occur with the less than perfect
match of the shape of the seawall and the shape of the property lines. The park
roughly centers on Naples Plaza
where a teardrop shaped turn around exists to
prevent a dead end
and to provide street frontage to the properties on either
side of Naples Plaza. About 1990
the turn around was closed
connecting the
island in the center of the turn around to the strip along the bay front.
Improvements include park benches
turf and palm trees.
