Prairie Creek State Park

In the North Coast region is a spectacular, must-see, must-smell, must-listen and must experience sanctuary of old growth coast redwood trees where visitors fall in love with the woods. There are 14,000 acres of magnificent coast redwoods groves occupied by the tallest trees in the world measuring 300 feet and more. Prairie Creek is a sanctuary of old-growth coast redwoods saved in the 1920s by concerned citizens.

ENJOY IT! For sports enthusiasts, nature lovers and even indoor types this park offers wonderful hiking trails where wildlife viewing is abundant. Prairie Creek in Humboldt County (the 2nd northernmost county in California) features rain and much cooler beaches and parks than southern counterparts even south in San Francisco.

Directions: Located 50 miles north of Eureka and 25 miles south of Crescent City, exit Highway 101 N. at Newton B. Drury Parkway (exit #753). Drive north on the parkway for two miles to park headquarters.

This is a California State Parks and Beaches state-operated beach in conjunction with National Parks Service. Along with Del Norte Coast, Jedediah Smith, and the National Park Service's Redwood National Park, these parks make up 45% of all the old-growth redwood forest remaining in California.(parks.ca.gov)
