Long Beach, California hosts not only the world's largest freighters but also is home to some of the smallest marine craft such as little Hobie boats. A couple rides a small Hobie in Alamitos Bay, a protected inlet to the Pacific Ocean. Along the bay are the communities such as Long Beach Peninsula, Naples Island and Belmont Shore. Hobie Cats are small fiberglass sailboats that are affordable to own and easy to learn how to sail and maneuver. Hobier Alter opened his first surf shop in 1954 and created the Hobie Cat sailboats were created in the late 1960s.
