If you were given an assignment to identify and capture the essence of the Huntington Beach Pier at sunset, you'd quickly learn that your challenge would be difficult. There is no one identifying type of sunset, no one color or combination of colors you'll capture in photos or on canvas during this special time of day. Perhaps that is why people fall in love with the sunsets at Huntington Beach Pier, and explains why they return time and again to see them first-hand.
One of a photographer's best friends is the wet sand sand as each wave recedes. On most days when the sunsets are strong and dynamic, the golden light will reflect on the sand, providing extra depth and dimension to each picture as shown. This photo is not an award-winner, because the composition and lighting could be better, no doubt. But what I like about it is that you can see the bird standing near reflections of the sun. If you spend time working on this photographic concept and are willing to get your feet a little wet, then you'll have some images worthy of contests.
