Penguins are incredible birds that have wings but don't fly. They love the water, however, and can stay underneath it for several minutes. These penguins can survive without water, however. When they were transported to the new Aquarium of the Pacific Penguin Habitat in a truck, they did not require water tanks or specially equipped water features to survive. Their adaptability over a million years as a species has been remarkable, considering they are birds. At least 50 penguin species are represented in the fossil record of the Southern Hemisphere and date back 60 million years to the Early Paleocene epoch.
