Foss is the world's first hybrid tugboat, introduced in the Port of Long Beach in 2009. The boat was introduced to help reduce pollution in the port area, a problem that exists in the busiest port (combined with Port of Los Angeles) in the nation. The success of the maritime builder provided impetus for retrofitting other tug boats you'll see in the harbor today. A single tugboat uses more than 100,000 gallons of diesel fuel that are saved each year in this new application.
