Seal Beach, California Oil Workers

Did you ever wonder how those oil workers get out to their platforms? Occasionally the helicopters transport people from the mainland, but most the time there are boats that go back and forth. Seal Beach Pier has a ramp where workers can load onto boats that take these commuters to their day or overnight jobs working on the Pacific Ocean at the Nueva oil fields and platforms.

The workers come from close by and far away. Some commute several hundred miles to the well paying jobs in Southern California.

Tourists and locals like to watch the workers board the boats, then head out to see. Or sometimes they arrive after a day of work and get to their cars after walking on the Seal Beach Pier. If you stick around for more than half an hour you may see a boat arriving at Seal Beach Pier. Kids love to see the activity as much as adults.
