Seal Beach Pier in Seal Beach, California--Say hi to Slick when you visit!

Seal Beach Pier is located above the Pacific Ocean in Seal Beach. You will find it on Ocean Ave. where Main Street comes to a dead-end. It takes five or ten minutes to walk to the end of the pier and back, and along the way you will discover scenic vistas, a wind that can blow your hat off if it's not secured, and a restaurant at the end with indoor seating and ocean views.

Seal Beach is named for seals and as you enter the pier, you'll see more than one icon to commemorate the beloved ocean creatures that frequented the area often, and now on occasion.

The street signs have little seal emblems on them, the trash containers have seal designs, the playground below the pier has blues seal rides for tiny tots, and the entrance to the pier features a bronze statue of a seal named Slick. Stationed on a stand and about 4 feet off the ground, kids run up to slick and often climb on him, parents take pictures of their family next to him, and some even pat him on the nose or kiss him like the Blarney Stone in Ireland.

Highlights to Seal Beach Pier include sunsets, often taking on a brilliant orange glow. People flock after work and tourists flock to the pier around the warm holiday nights before and after Thanksgiving & Christmas to experience the brilliant, breathtaking sunsets.

Another family tradition that delights all ages is watching the boats come into the pier to let off passenger from the oil piers offshore.

No public pier in California is complete without the installation of a periscope with a high-powered magnifier that allows people to place a coin in the machine and see distant objects.

One of the best, free types of fishing takes place on the California coast from public piers. Dozens or hundreds of anglers fish in a single day from California's public piers such as Seal Beach. Public piers provide free fishing opportunities for all ages.
