SAN LUIS OBISPO, CALIF. -- The pink highway sign that lights up the night, visible from I-101 on the Central California Coast, alerts you that you're in Madonna Country. Madonna Inn has a long-standing tradition of wearing its pink proudly. It's not just a girl thing. The hotel rooms are wildly decorated with bright colors, masculine and feminine themes, and everything in the resort smacks of garish, entertaining and fun. With that in mind, you'll appreciate the vibrant pink and blue tennis courts and basketball courts the hotel renovated to reflect the founder's desire to make statements.

Alex Madonna was a real character. He and his wife built the hotel, a shopping center and were involved in ranching. When the city threw what he considered unnecessary road blocks to building shops, Alex threatened to place a stinky pig farm on the land for all passing by to smell. His spirit was Old West but his sense of business rock solid.

The hot pink tennis court and matching basketball court are trimmed with a pleasing baby blue. They are open to hotel guests.
