Ride For a Reason is an annual bike Ride to Sacramento to draw attention to the budget crisis for public schools in California, and to raise essential funds for school enrichment programs in Oakland. Last year, 120 Riders pedaled from Oakland to the steps of the State Capitol to protest the massive cuts in funding for education. Parents, teachers and community members are riding again this year to raise funds and public awareness in this cause. 45-, 60-, AND 100-Mile Rides to the State Capitol in Sacramento. Sunday June 3, 2012 PALO ALTO - Sequoia Century. The Sequoia Century is the Western Wheelers Bicycle Club's annual, fully supported bicycling event. Starting at the Stanford Blood Center in Palo Alto, CA, the Ride winds through the redwoods. The 200K, 100 Mile and 100K routes climb Redwood Gulch before descending toward the coast. Saturday June 16, 2012 CHESTER - Mile High 100. The 30th Annual Mile High 100 Bike Ride has 3 different routes to choose from. Located where the scenic Southern Cascades bump into the gentle Northern Sierras, the Mile High 100 will treat you to a quiet day on the back roads that wander through the lush green forests surrounding Lake Almanor and the Indian Valley. This is not a race, but a collection of tours for cyclists of all abilities. The purpose of this event is to promote recreational bicycling under the volcano in the shadow of Northern California's incredible Lassen Peak with scenic views around Lake Almanor. Proceeds from this event are invested in organized recreation in the Lake Almanor Basin and provide support for the Chester/Lake Almanor Chamber of Commerce. This Ride is known for having the friendliest volunteers, best food, and most beautiful scenery in Northern California.
Century Ride (108 Miles) This is a relatively easy Ride by Century standards. It takes you around Lake Almanor and through the peaceful Indian Valley. Approximately 3,200' total elevation climb.
METRIC Century (56 Miles) This Ride encompasses the entire Almanor Basin. It is recommended for the cyclist who desire a challenging loop without the distance and the bigger climbs found in the full Century Ride. Approximately 1,500' total elevation climb.
HALF METRIC Century (33 Miles) Take your time and enjoy the mountain vistas and the clean air. This is the Ride for those wanting a nice leisurely Ride lakeside around Lake Almanor, the blue jewel on the North Fork of the Feather River. Approximately 600' total elevation climb. GOLD COUNTRY - LAKE TAHOE - Cycle The Sierra, June 23 - 27, 2012. Cycle the Sierra is an annual cycling event that takes place in the Sierra Nevada mountains of Northern California. This fully supported, five day journey takes Riders 300 Miles, through breathtaking country, beneath granite peaks, through evergreen forests, into alpine hot springs, to iconic locations like Lake Tahoe, over the 4th highest bridge in the US, to the site where gold was discovered starting the California Gold Rush, and through numerous unique and historical communities along the way.
