Graeagle isn't an incorporated city, but is recognized as a census designated place with a strong sense of community in Plumas County, Calif. With a population under 1,000, it seems rather small, but the town is large at heart.Getting its news information and enjoying the Nevada lifestyle such as gambling and entertainment in neighboring Reno "Biggest Little City in the World", Graeagle visitors and resident have access to Reno about an hour away by car on Highway 395 and SR 70, or beautiful North Lake Tahoe known for its superb skiing.
Small town life with the big town lifestyle amenities not far away provide a perfect balance for a serene place where traffic isn't an issue most the time, and people know each other's names.
The name Graeagle actually comes from the town's origins as a timber town and
site of a lumber company named Graeagle Lumber Company. Boxes requiring
timber for construction were made at the Box Factory owned by the California Fruit Exchange.
During its heyday, thousands of people lived here and built boxes for shipping
fruit, once California's claim to fame during the 1920's through 1940's.
