4th of July Recovery!

From too much sun to cuts, burns, bad food and stomach aches, are you a 4th of July survivor? San Jose resident Joey Chestnut is. He regained his title at the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island. 70 hot dogs in 10 minutes wasn’t enough to best his World Record of 73 set in 2013 but he did grab the prize after being beat last year. In this year’s award photo Joey’s face appears to show a little pain.

After surviving a day of sun, did you cough, wheeze or sneeze? A 42% spike in particulate matter on the 4th of July primarily between 9 and 10 p.m. has been linked with negative health effects, such as wheezing, shortness of breath, asthma attacks, heart attacks, stroke and early death, according to the EPA. States may exceed the EPA standard for 24-hour fine particulate matter concentrations if they can show that the spike was due to fireworks displays or other exceptional events.

Where to go? Head for Lake County, the #2 Cleanest County in the nation for year-round particle pollution. Or move to Salinas, one of the 30 Cleanest U.S. Cities for ozone air pollution.
