72 Hour Rule After it Rains

Someone with a sense of humor made a Sand Santa in Newport Beach before the rain’s arrival along the California coast. While most won’t be taking a dip into the Pacific, those who may have forgotten or don’t know should be aware of the 72 hour rule. It’s recommend by health agencies that you NOT go in the ocean after it rains for 72 hours. If you’d like to do a good deed, however, you can collect trash. There will be tons of it washing from rivers and streams into the Pacific Ocean. Bigger items that wash to sea include grocery carts. In most clean-ups you’ll find water bottles, tennis balls, flip flop shoes, pens to write with, candy wrappers and fruit fallen from trees such as lemons and oranges washing into the storm drain.
