California’s 2013 Centennial Cities celebrating 100 years of incorporation left to right: Needles, San Gabriel, San Marino, Avalon, Sutter Creek, Reedley and Banning.
It’s pretty cool when a city hits 100. In 2013, there are 7 California cities celebrating their 100th year of incorporation, and we wish them much happiness and success for years to come. Diverse in the landscapes, the the seven cities all share a history of time and place. In addition to these cities incorporating, several events from 1913 included creation of California Alien Land Law prohibiting “aliens ineligible to citizenship” (ie. all Asian immigrants) from owning land or property, but permitting three year leases; and the creation of the Lincoln Highway, a major stimulus project for promoting industry and tourism in the state.
