The first children’s museum West of the Mississippi was founded in Palo Alto in 1934 by Josephine O’Hara. As the Palo Alto Junior Museum grew to include a mini-zoo 44 years ago in 1969, it never intended to be the biggest or best known zoo on the West Coast. And it never has become that.
