Greek, Swedish or Sicilian–that is the question this weekend. Three fabulous festivals celebrate European cultures that have embraced California, calling it home, also known as spiti (Greek), hem (Swedish), or domestico ( Italian). Get busy dancing the Syrtos (national dance of Greece), polska (Swedish dance), and maybe the Taratata (Sicilian dance during the feast of the Holy Cross in late May.)
While visitors to the California cultural festivals held the weekend of May 17-19, 2013 may not know the names of things such as dances, foods and garb that people wear, they readily embrace the fun that comes from experiencing something different and unique. In the Central Valley city of Kingsburg you are invited to participate in the annual Swedish Festival May 17-18; in Orange County and the home of Disneyland enjoy the annual OC Greek Festival May 17-19; and in San Diego’s Little Italy be whisked away at the Sicilian Festival May 19.
