In addition to some festivals taking place this weekend that include foods of European cultures, California Strawberry Festival takes place on May 17-18, 2013 in Oxnard, the Strawberry Capital of the World! In addition to consuming tons of decadent, delicious strawberries with whipped cream and shortcake, guests can enter pie eating, strawberry tart toss, dance, hat making, relay and the cute baby contests. According to the USDA, Oxnard is California’s largest strawberry producer, supplying about one-third of the State’s annual strawberry volume. The peak harvesting season in California runs from April through June, when up to 10 million pint baskets of strawberries are shipped daily. The state of California supplies over 85% of America’s strawberries, and 25% of total world production of strawberries. Read more about the Strawberry Festival>
