Dig in your heels for those famous California Hills!
Pictured in photo is Signal Hill, formerly called Bay of Smokes by native tribes in Southern California who used the hill as a strategic vantage point to send out smoke signals visible over 20 miles away in Catalina Island.
No doubt you’ve heard of the famous Hollywood Hills and Beverly Hills. They are some of California’s top tourist draws. But so is Nob Hill in San Francisco, another popular attraction. What’s considered a mountain in flatter states such as Missouri and Kansas often is called a hill in California. However you rank them, hills offer some of the best spots for taking a walk, and gazing out at the scenery. On the 4th of July, everybody wants to be on top of a hill to see the fireworks. The person on top is called King of the Hill.
