ABOUT OXNARD:

  • 73.5% of Oxnard’s residents are Hispanic or Latino, favoring events such as the Oxnard Salsa Festival that include cultural dishes and dances.
  • Oxnard Plain is considered one of the most fertile areas in the world.
  • Cesar Chavez lived in Oxnard during his childhood.

Oxnard is a unique city along the Central California coast that serves as an attractive tourist destination with hotels such as the ocean front Embassy Suites Mandalay Beach providing beach vacations. Several of its largest events each year include the California Strawberry Festival and the Oxnard Salsa Festival. When visiting, you can’t help but notice the expansive farms that produce strawberries, vegetables, flowers and a variety of marketable crops.   It is far enough away from L.A. (approx. 1 hour by car) to feel like you’ve left the big city for more relaxing environs, yet there’s still plenty to see and do, such as taking a trip to the Channel Islands. When visiting there are fantastic museums (Mullin Automobile Museum & Murphys Automotive Museum) to see, a farmer’s market and an entire historic district of early 19th century homes. During December the historic district is lit for the holidays, attracting large crowds who come to experience its old-fashioned charm.
