No doubt you’ve heard the catchy phrase: “What happens in Las Vegas stays in Las Vegas.” But truthfully, what happens in Las Vegas doesn’t stay there! It affects California–make no bones about it! For instance, during the dot-com boom, major computer conventions left California for Las Vegas, which was capable of handling the large events. After several renovations and additions Las Vegas Convention Center has become the largest single-level convention center in the world with 3,200,000 square feet of space that can host up to 200,000 people!
Unlike California, Las Vegas had no dedicated concerts and sports venue to shout about–but they will! In fact, they’re using the same developers as LA Live for their new 20,000-seat sports and entertainment arena, the centerpiece of the revitalization of the area between New York-New York and Monte Carlo resorts, extending from Las Vegas Blvd. to Frank Sinatra Drive. The new joint venture partnership between AEG and MGM Resorts International is expected to open in the spring of 2016..
AEG (Anschutz subsidiary) is known for projects around the globe, and recognized in California for Los Angeles Staples Center, Carson StubHub, L.A. LIVE with Nokia Theatre, Club Nokia, a 54-story, 1001-room convention headquarters, management shares of the Los Angeles Lakers (NBA), LA Kings (NHL), MLS Cup Champion Los Angeles Galaxy, and the Amgen Tour of California cycling race. California convention & hotel sales staff DO pay attention to what happens in Las Vegas, and they often hope it DOESN’T stay there!
