It’s no wonder that California birding festivals can sell out and often do–birding is addictive. Festivals with bird trips, talks, walks and even squawks attract people who know nothing about birds and hardly ever look at them, but want to learn. Thankfully you don’t have to sign up of for a trip and spend the day watching birds if that’s over your head and too much of a time investment. In several upcoming bird festivals there are free family days which entail activities around a base camp such as bird displays, crafts for kids and fun things to do. This weekend the Morro Bay Winter Bird Festival launches 2014 birding celebrations. In a few weeks head for the Galt Winter Bird Festival. The beauty of birding in California is that birds are everywhere you look. If you can’t attend a festival, just look up.
