Italy is an extremely popular destination with West Coast travelers as evidenced by the numerous California chambers of commerce going there this year: Cambria Chamber is going to Tuscany in March, Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce is going to Venice & Milan in the fall, Monrovia’s Chamber is heading to Rome in the fall, Lodi’s Chamber is heading for Tuscany in May, Roseville’s Chamber is doing a One Hotel Holiday in Tuscany in October…and the list goes on & on. Californians travel the distance (over 6,000 miles) just to see the scenery, experience the art, the romance, and sample the food & wine.
Although one American is hoping not to return to Italy or be extradited there (Amanda Knox was found guilty of murdering student Meredith Kercher and has been given a sentence of 28 years & six months to be served in Italy,) other West Coast residents simply lack the time or money to travel to Europe, but would visit Italy if they could.
There are approx. 1.5 million Italian Americans living in California–and they know how to throw parties!
