CAMP PENDLETON, CALIF.– Attention and accolades normally are praised on those serving in the military while their support systems (families) work for the cause without recognition. Female spouses, in particular, have extra burdens of paying bills, maintaining households and raising the children alone, but that’s just the beginning of their duties as military wives.  Dannielle Maxwell, wife of Gunnery Sgt. Dustin Maxwell, Landing Support Company Gunnery Sergeant, Combat Logistics Regiment 17, 1st Marine Logistics Group (MLG), was named Spouse of the Year for her hard work and dedication to her family, community and husband’s unit while holding the position of a family readiness assistant.

She’s found time for her family life, but also used her experience as a Marine spouse to help 1st MLG families prepare for upcoming deployments, logging more than 600 volunteer hours. She has volunteered at her son’s school, for her kids’ sports teams, for the Marine Corps ball fundraisers, as curriculum team leader for the Leadership Education Seminar which educates military spouses, has attended most homecomings,  and has taken nearly every class available to help her keep the unit up to date on valuable information.

Dannielle grew up in a military household with her father serving in Operation Desert Storm and remembers the community support. “I learned there is always somebody somewhere going through something a lot worse than you are, and it’s important to lend a helping hand.”
