Pictured (left, back row) is Nancy Caruso, a Marine Biologist and founder of “Get Inspired,” (getinspiredinc.org) who has been a driving force, working with the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, school students and others to help Kelp return to Orange County beaches after an absence of more than 25 years. The students actually grow the kelp. Caruso is also the founder of the annual Kelpfest held April 26, 2014, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Main Beach in Laguna Beach. Free tours will be offered of the tide pools.
Can one person make a difference? Definitely, especially with a little help from her friends. Celebrate the return of the giant kelp forest, part of a bigger effort that thousands of volunteers participate in to restore ecosystems and undo the damage done by humans along the California coast.
