California SantaCons
If you’ve witnessed a group of Santas out partying and acting crazy, it’s likely you have encountered a SantaCon. SantaCon is a worldwide phenomenon, but got its start in California, of course! Everything cool starts here. 2014 is the 20th anniversary of SantaCon, which began in San Francisco in 1994. The convention of santas — groups of men & women dressed as Santa, are everywhere. Most SantaCon gatherings, arranged by an individual, business or bar, require that participants wear Santa attire such as red suits, not just Santa hats. The participants are encouraged to buy candy to give out to people as they proceed along the event with other Santas, heading for pubs to sample brews, or walking public streets playing Santa and doing good deeds.
