Since 2008 National Train Day has taken place on the Saturday closest to May 10, the anniversary of the pounding of the Golden Spike in Promontory, Utah completing the first transcontinental railroad within the United States. “After seven years of National Train Day, a one day only event, we’ve decided to switch it up for 2015,” says an Amtrak spokesman who announced that they’re calling it Amtrak Train Days. Merced Train Station hosts an event on May 9, 2015 featuring San Joaquin Valley Toy Train Operators model trains. Also on Sat. May 9 San Luis Obispo Railroad Museum hosts displays, Railroad Swap Meet, and lots of fun activities for all ages. Dunsmuir, Jamestown, Sacramento, Fresno, Goleta and Los Angeles are some of the cities hosting events to celebrate not one day but many. Read more…>
