If you could roll back the clock and visit California’s beloved Seal Beach 100 years ago, you’d be amazed. Even though the swimsuits were far less revealing than they are today, the beach town had an energy and vibe it hasn’t seen since its incorporation. In fact, it had a reputation for being wild! This weekend on Aug. 22, 2015 Seal Beach celebrates its 100th birthday of incorporation with a beach party, BBQ, and antique swimsuit parade. It’s a whole lot of beach fun and it’s absolutely free! The event reflects today’s Seal Beach more than the past, while honoring its heritage. Did you know that Seal Beach was considered wild 100 years ago? During the Prohibition against alcoholic beverages Seal Beach offered a soft, sandy spot for “rum-runners” to roll their barrels of booze to shore. There was gambling, prostitution and the town had a reputation for its free-wheeling atmosphere where ‘anything goes’. Other California cities turning 100 in 2015 include Amador City, Delano and Gustine.
