In a high-tech world where drones have become all the rage, it’s nice to know there are still simpler games and activities to stir the imagination. National Kite Month doesn’t come till April but Californians are already flying high with kites that are not just fun, but also teach people basic science principles.
If you’re looking to bring the science aspect to your community, we previously featured Dave, the Kite Guy, who travels to schools giving lessons and hands-on demonstrations about kites. He’s so immersed in the world of kites that he’s operated Kite Connection on Huntington Beach Pier for decades, and also hosts the annual Kite Party with an A-list of kite aficionados from around the U.S.
California may well be the epicenter of modern kite flying! Since 1989 when kite flying became a sport with the establishment of a National Stunt Kite Circuit, the “California Swept Wing” Stunt Kite has had the greatest influence on stunt flying.
