Last week a news story claimed Germans are complaining about tourists ruining their traditional Oktoberfest celebration. They say guests wear cheap outfits that are too revealing and unrefined. Bah! There are plenty of reasons to party at home.

What’s so special about California Oktoberfest?

• BIG BEAR LAKE: Oktoberfest runs from Sept.8 to Nov.3 on weekends at Big Bear Lake Convention Center.
• CLAYTON: Oktoberfest is Oct.6-7 in Downtown Clayton.
• HUNTINGTON BEACH: Oktoberfest at Old World Village runs Sept.9-Oct.28. Highlights include Wiener Dog Races, Kinderfest Sundays and free family nights during the week.
• MAMMOTH LAKES: Oktoberfest in the Village goes Sept.21-22
• NEWPORT BEACH: Oktoberfest at Newport Dunes goes Sept.29-Oct.21.
• REDWOOD CITY: Oktoberfest Downtown Redwood City is Bier! Brezeln! Bratwurst! Sept.19-23
• SAN JOSE: Oveja Negra, located within Hotel Valencia Santana Row, is throwing their own Oktoberfest party Oct.19
• TORRANCE: Oktoberfest at Alpine Village goes Sept.7 to Oct.27. It’s been going since 1968.
• TWAIN HARTE: Oktoberfest takes place Oct.6 in Eproson Park.
