It’s a good thing that swimsuit designers have unveiled their 2012 fashions and styles. The beaches have experienced a heat wave with temperatures in the 80s for this January 2012. And beach bunnies have already begun working on their tans in January. Can you imagine?

What’s in store in terms of fashion on the beaches this year? Here are a few trends you might see play out on the sands of Doheny, Ocean, Huntington or Malibu beach:

Colors–2012 is ALL about color:

• Sunny and chic – look for burnt-orange softened to a pastel version of its former self. Coral, Sunset Orange,  citric light green, pinks in vibrant hues, ultramarines–royal and cobalt, and black
• Patterns – timeless artisanal, handcrafted pattern-making methods  include tribal and ethnic influences,  serape, ikat and native motifs, handcrafted embroidery, crochet and macrame, animal-inspired patterns and a resurgence of the more classical animal colors with a twist – designers have incorporated a trim or detail against a solid color. Also look for contrasting, non-matching hues, and leopard, croc, zebra will all be back in 2012.
• Silhouettes & Styles – Two-pieces will be prominent, but more one-pieces, monokinis and tankinis. Designers are leveraging underwire, push-up, padding,  bandeaus and one-shoulder tops.  For bottoms, hipster, multiple strips of fabric on bottoms.
