Let Tulipmania Begin at San Francisco’s Pier 39

Published on: February 13, 2012

It’s just five days till the Tulipmania tulip festival launches at Pier 39 in San Francisco but for anyone who knows tulips, you’ll make an educated guess that they flowers should be blooming right about now (Tulipmania runs Feb. 18-26, 2012.) Yes, you can go early and see them. When went a little late last year and the blossoms were beginning to wilt but it was still worth seeing during our trip to Alcatraz.

The Tulipmania festival includes plantings of Apricot Beauties, Texas Flames, Purple Princes, Flaming Parrots, Swan Wings and Burgundy Lace, to name a few. Though our personal favorites include visits to Holland to see massive fields filled with tulips each year, a trip to San Francisco is closer to home and offers an added bonus to your day trip, weekend stay or vacation.

Tulipmania greets tourists and locals to a real treat, complete with free guided tours beginning at 10 a.m. daily. At the entrance to the Plaza tour guides will tell you all about these beautiful flower arrangements. Topped with winter vegetables such as lettuce, parsley, celery and red chard, guests are delighted each year by the visual feast.

Location: Beach Street & The Embarcadero, San Francisco, CA. Cost: Free. Time: Open at 10 a.m. daily. pier39.com
