HALF MOON BAY, CALIF.–When you visit this Bay Area city along the San Mateo County coast, the name “Half Moon Bay” evokes images in your mind of a huge, half-moon visible over the bay. As I passed by on a 500-mile coastal drive and saw this great sunset, I stopped the car and grabbed a quick photo. When you see the sun going down you don’t have much time! Only afterward when I got home did it hit me that I got the “half” correct. Instead of a half-moon I captured a half-sun. Either way, it is a magical beach destination with hotels you’ll really love (such as The Beach House or Ritz Carlton with an oceanfront golf course), a great downtown with eclectic dining, art galleries and boutiques, and a very relaxed beach-centric vibe.
