How Can One Little Trail Be So Closed? Mossbrae Waterfall in Dunsmuir
The delightful Mossbrae waterfall which feeds from the Sacramento River is located in Dunsmuir, Calif. Visitors LOVE it, but getting to it has become difficult after officials closed the trail and began writing citations last year. The trail happens to be part of an active railroad–hikers must jump off the track when trains come by. Visitors and locals are crying fowl over the closure, and an attempt to build a new trail may take several years, if funded to the tune of $600,000 – up. The waterfall has been one of Dunsmuir’s main tourist attractions, but if you’re a fan of trains, they’re celebrating National Train Day on May 12, 2012. Other events coming up this summer (dunsmuir.com) include Dogwood Daze May 26, 2012, and annual railroad days June 8-10, 2012. And for those who want to see waterfalls, visit Castle Crags State Park six miles south of Dunsmuir.
