Legends, Gold Rush Era Soda Fountain in Sonora, California
In the heart of California Gold Country, Sonora is a town steeped in artifacts of the gold rush era of the late 1840s and 1850s. One of the highlights to this culturally rich region in the Sierra Nevada foothills is the lifestyle of the people that live there. Sure, they have a Walmart, a movie theater, Starbucks and all the trappings of modern life. But there’s also Columbia State Historic Park, St. James Historic Red Church built in 1859 and Legends, a soda fountain containing a bar some believe was built around 1850. It is spectacular to see! But don’t forget to order an old fashioned Root Beer Float, Blue Bunny Ice Cream, or browse books and antiques. The building contains an historic tunnel you can visit to see where locals hid out when the bad guys arrived in town. While there are a few noteworthy soda fountains that transport visitors to other eras such as the Watson Soda Fountain in the city of Orange, Legends takes you back much further to the Gold Rush era and for some, it just feels like home.
