Huntington Beach, California Designer Ely Santos  Creates Woman’s Sports Clothing Line

By C. MacDonald

Remember the name, Ely Santos. He’s a snowboarder-skateboarder- surfer, with a flair for fashion. After doing marketing studies, he recently started creating a woman’s sports clothing line by coming up with a catchy logo and first products–stickers and t-shirts–with Sugar Bomb™, Ignite the Power.

“I came up with the name and design because it’s for women who have the power to be what they want to be,”  said the  former snowboarder, who lived in Switzerland before landing in San Diego and now Huntington Beach. “In snowboarding, surfing and skateboarding, there are a lot of girls who ‘rip’ (have exceptional power behind their performances).  I want to give them exposure for the effort they’re putting forth, so part of every sale of my products goes to Girls Riders Organization, which educates, encourages and supports them getting into these action sports.”

Ely, who has 8 years retail experience, said he has sponsored one amateur surfer and wants to eventually have a team of both amateur and professional surfers, snowboarders and skateboarders.

“My goal is to branch into wetsuits and other products that are designed by women with degrees in fashion and marketing,” said the college student, who works at Surf City Store on the HB Pier, and also waits tables at Chart House.

He said the target audience for his t-shirts is girls 10-50. You can get his cute Sugar Bomb t-shirts at Rockin Figs Surf Headquarters, 316 Main St., Huntington Beach and online at sugarbombrocks.com.
