Any place named after a type of clam can’t be bad. In fact, Pismo Beach actually is pretty good (and tasty) as beaches go. For 66 years the Central Coast town has celebrated clams with a festival at the beach, featuring a clam dig contest, clam chowder cook-off and beautiful ocean setting. Pismo Beach 66th annual Clam Festival takes place Friday, Oct. 19 – Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012. The three day event including Wine Walk, parade, clam chowder cook-off, clam digging, food, entertainment, vendors, fun for the entire family! Call: (805) 773-4382 for information or pismochamber.com
If you can’t attend the event this year, stop by Pismo Beach the next time you pass by on I-101 and try the best clam chowder on the coast as Splash Cafe.
MORE CLAMS! Santa Cruz hosts a Clam Chowder Cook-Off on Saturday, February 23, 2013. Costumed chefs compete for the title of best clam chowder during this popular fundraiser for Santa Cruz City Parks & Recreation. See beachboardwalk.com
