One of the most descriptive names for a beach in California (or any place) is Bowling Ball Beach, found only in Mendocino County along California’s North Coast. Giant sculpted rocks smoothed and shaped by ocean waves look like huge balls just sitting and waiting for someone to come along and roll them. Trouble is, they’re kind of big. You must use your imagination to consider playing a giant bowling ball game. Unlike the Giant Monopoly Game in San Jose where you become the game pieces, these “balls” are solid rock.
On your next trip to along the Mendocino Coast when you go to see the world’s tallest redwoods, sample wines, stay at cozy B&Bs, and visit beaches, be sure to stop and take a look. Bowling Ball Beach is located along Mendo’s south coast, among 160 miles of Mendocino County beaches that are perfect for tide-pooling, whale-watching, shell-gathering, or just taking in the panoramic views.
