Most of us know Betty White as the characters she portrays in popular film and TV productions. She’s currently known as Elka Ostrovsky in TV Land’s Hot in Cleveland, but also brings smiles in re-broadcasts in which she played Rose Nylund on The Golden Girls (1985-2000) and Sue Ann Nivens on The Mary Tyler Moore Show (1973-1985.)  The 91-year young actress has been nominated for and has won well over 50 acting awards, has a Walk of Fame star, and always draws a crowd wherever she goes. But aside from the glitz & glam, the Illinois-born girl likes helping animals when she can. It’s fair to say that animals like Betty White, too. She has animal magnetism.

BETTY WHITE:

  • Owns a golden retriever, Pontiac, who’s “in my heart”
  • Has loved animals since she was little – her parents loved animals, too
  • Likes seeing zoos in every city she visits
  • Favorite L.A. haunts include: Los Angeles Zoo, Griffith Park, Pacific Coast Highway
  • Has a home in Carmel, one of California’s most pet-friendly cities
  • Co-chair of Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association, a non-profit organization
  • Recipient of San Diego Zoo Conservation Medal for dedication to animals
  • Who-manitarian Award at Universal Studios Hollywood
  • 1983 Book: Betty White’s Pet-Love: How Pets Take Care of Us
  • 2011 Book: Betty & Friends: My Life at the Zoo
