Say bye bye to these angels! Victoria’s Secret annual angel-themed fashion show, a holiday extravaganza of angel wings and lingerie, has been canceled, according to L Brands, the parent company of Victoria’s Secret and Bath & Body Works.

Do you believe in angels? An Associated Press-GfK poll found that over 3 in 4 adults (77%) believe these ethereal beings are real. Whether you believe in them or not, they’re everywhere in California.

Angels in California

  • At least two cities in California get their names from angels–Los Angeles (City of Angels,) and Angels Camp.
  • Angels Gate Lighthouse in the L.A. Harbor is a well known landmark visible from many vantage points.
  • Angels Flight in Downtown Los Angeles is a unique rail car ride transporting people on a very short ride in Bunker Hill.
  • Los Angeles Angels professional baseball team is based in Anaheim at Angels Stadium.
  • Charlie’s Angels was a popular syndicated television series that was produced from 1976 to 1981. If you turn on a TV today, you may still see it in reruns. Actors Farrah Fawcett, Kate Jackson and Jaclyn Smith played the star roles in this show. Movies and merchandise were spun-off in attempts to capitalize on this hit.
  • Highway to Heaven is another 1980s hit series featuring Michael Landon.
  • Blue Angels has a winter base in California and makes annual appearances at several air shows in the Golden State.
  • Throughout California there are angel themed stores, and fashion boutiques, clothing lines and nonprofits using “angel” in their name.
  • Along with Angel and Angelina, other angel names ranking in the US Top 1,000 include Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, Evangeline, Laila, Nathaniel, Michaela, and Gabrielle.
