The California apple festival fix is in beginning this weekend with Sebastopol Gravenstein Apple Fair. If you’ve never been to Sonoma County’s apple capital, you’ll see upon arrival that it’s clearly Gravenstein headquarters. This apple event August 9-10, 2014 launches a season of apple festivals throughout the state, introducing you to a variety of tastes. The Gravenstein apple, picked in July and August, has a tart flavor ideal for apple pie, apple sauce and apple cider. If you miss this event, Petaluma (Sonoma County) celebrates the Gravenstein at an apple festival on August 23. In September there are apple festivals in Garin, Boonville, Apple Hill and Arroyo Grande. In October apple festivals take place in Fortuna, Julian, Manton, Paradise, Springville and Oak Glen. 12 apple festivals –sweet!
