Santa doesn’t always arrive on a sleigh, especially in California where he comes in on a motorcycle, bicycle, lifeguard truck and even a surfboard. We’ve seen Santa arrive in a helicopter, fire engine, kayak, motorboat, on a horse and a skateboard, no less. And is some California cities Santa never arrives because he’s never gone away!
When children begin asking questions about Santa’s existence and his mode of travel what should you say? There’s really no “right” time to tell kids that there’s no Santa Claus,” says Glen Elliott, associate professor and the Director of the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychology at the University of California, San Francisco. “The important thing is to take your cues from the child, and not try to prolong the fantasy for your own enjoyment when they may be ready to give it up.”
Some kids never want to give it up. They not only want Santa to be real, they want to BE Santa when they grow up. The clothes are comfy, your heart gets fuzzy as you perform acts of kindness, and people are all smiles when you arrive in the suit.
How much does it cost to be Santa? $40 – up
