California is 2nd in the nation in sweet corn production. To celebrate the summer crop, corn festivals are preparing to boil and roast large sums of corn on the cob. Add butter and salt to your sweet corn to bite into a summer tradition! Sweet corn in California is grown and available during the summer and into the fall, so get it while you can.
Corn is used in nearly every food product, and is used to feed cattle. There are different types of corn available, with sweet corn mostly for human consumption. The other types are used primarily for cattle feed and food processing ingredients. Midwestern states in the U.S. grow higher volumes of these types of corn, which inspired a song with lyrics: “I’m as Corny as Kansas in August”, written by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein for the 1949 musical, “South Pacific”. The title of that song was “I’m In Love With A Wonderful Guy”. Read more about California corn.
