Combining the fantastic setting of beach volleyball with the action of tennis, beach tennis has California beaches written all over it! This weekend catch the tennis tournament fever as the beach heats up (weather predicted to hit 90s in SoCal!) At its new West Coast home in Hermosa Beach on October 26-28, 2012 the International Beach Tennis Championships – Subaru Hermosa Beach Open (hermosabeachopen.net) invites the public to watch the free admission event on the north side of Hermosa Beach Pier starting on Fridayat at 9 a.m.
Donny Young, co-founder of West Coast Beach Tennis feels “a certain magic” playing a game easier than tennis or volleyball that everyone can enjoy. Adding to the fun, participants break into full dance mode out on the court when games are completed. Beach Tennis is similar to regular tennis except it is played on beach courts in the sand. The sport involves players using beach tennis paddles and a special tennis ball. The ball is volleyed back and forth without hitting the ground and each team or player can only hit the ball once to get it over net.
