We have a joke in our family when we see a bicyclist coming home from work wearing a bright orange vest. Somebody loves them. When a cyclist wears dark clothes, we surmise that their spouse doesn’t love them. “Hear honey, wear these dark clothes so nobody will see you when you ride home…” The same goes for children trick or treating through neighborhoods as cars zip by. Kids wearing black are nearly impossible to detect. The US Consumer Safety Product Commission says that kids should avoid wearing dark costumes, poor fitting attire, and masks that cover the eyes or nose, impairing the child in various ways.
