While you may have the misperception that fog and misty weather so prominent along the northern coast are not conducive to taking photos, the opposite is true. There are few beaches in California featuring so many things to see and photograph! The fog and mist create an ideal situation for zooming in on flowers, plants, animals and fish, minus harsh shadows. Try it some time.
