Parked in front of a 1950’s era California beach cottage is a Plymouth Deluxe, a Chrysler-manufactured automobile that came off the assembly line between 1946 and 1950, right after U.S. car makers were given the green light to quit making bombs and bullets, and begin making cars once again. The Plymouth Deluxe came in several varieties that included a convertible and two or four-door coupe. Cars were in such demand that would-be buyers went from dealer to dealer, placing their names on waiting lists and sometimes even paying extra for a chance to get a car sooner.
If you were born between 1946 & 1964 (WWII ended in the Fall of 1945,) you are a boomer. You may have ridden in this car as a baby and youngster, and were probably not hooked in with a seat belt and baby car seat. Just like this car, you are slightly showing your age, though you wear it well! You have classic design, rounded corners and generous interior space–plenty of head & leg room.
If you want to buy a car like this today, there are several listed on the Internet for around $10k – 20K. If you want to buy this beach shack today, you’d pay around $1 million.
