1.8 Million Thanksgiving Passengers at LAX, 1.2 Million at SFO

Air travel is up slightly from last year during this Thanksgiving travel season.  Sunday, November 25, 2012  is expected to be the busiest day of the holiday travel period, with Monday, November 26 trailing slighly behind. If you’re looking to book or make changes to your flight, don’t be surprised to learn that domestic flights to popular destinations such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Chicago and New York are 90 to 100% full!

  • Passengers departing during peak travel periods – 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.;  11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.  should arrive in their airline’s ticketing lobbies 2 hours before domestic flights and 3 hours before international flights. 24 new Chevrolet Caprice police cars have automated license plate recognition system, video camera systems and Rumbler devices to get attention of distracted motorists more quickly.
  • Check in through airline Internet websites before coming to the airport,  sign up to receive electronic alerts  regarding flight status, and  ensure any carry-on baggage complies with size and weight limitations at: lawa.org/lax

  • Capacity parking on Thanksgiving and the day after–take take alternate mode of transportation to and from the airport. When Long Term Parking reaches capacity, SFO will provide Valet Assisted parking for customers at the long-term daily parking rate of $18. Daily maximum parking rate at International Garages is $28, Domestic Garage is $36 per day. Use FasTrak lanes to enter and quickly exit SFO’s parking garages.
  • Free cell-phone parking lot adjacent to the Long Term Parking surface lot 5 minutes north of the terminals; Short-term parking offered at $2 per 20 minutes in hourly terminal garage; Kiss-and-Fly drop-off curb at the rental car facility where they can catch the AirTrain and be at the airport in minutes.
