California produces nearly 80% of the nation’s carrots. More than 70,000 acres of prime carrot growing takes place in the fertile soils of Kern County, helping California claim the title of “Carrot Capital USA”. But guess what? Holtville in Imperial Valley has long claimed the title of Carrot Capital of California, and since they have the Carrot Festival and Parade, who’s going to argue about the being the carrot leader when it’s time to celebrate? A Carrot queen, carrot cooking contest, carrot events and carnival with midway all take place Feb. 1 through Feb. 10, 2013. Sponsored by the Holtville Chamber of Commerce (holtvillechamber.com), good times and healthy foods are straight ahead.
