Who doesn’t love a classic Thunderbird? If you attend some of the 30 + car club gatherings and shows this week, you’d be referring to an automobile. If you visit March Air Field Museum or a dozen other flight museums in California, you’d be looking for a Thunderbird military aircraft. And on the shores of Lake Tahoe on August 10 & 11, 2012, the word “Thunderbird” sends thrills up the spine of visitors attending the Lake Tahoe Concours d’Elegance Classic Boat Show (laketahoeconcours.com). That particular Thunderbird shown in photo is a 1939 vintage commuter boat featuring a distinctive stainless-steel cabin top. It was built for millionaire George Whittell, a man who was fascinated with the late aircraft, automobile and boat technology. Earth, air and water are all represented in a weekend of events providing enough entertainment to float anyone’s boat.
